12 | Métamorphoses

This programme offers a journey through German Romanticism and its extensions into the 20th century.
The evening opens with Malcolm Arnold's Sonatina Opus 6, a concise and lively piece in which the flute, clarinet and viola engage in a dialogue in a style that is both lyrical and rhythmic.
Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet in A minor, Op. 47, then offers a testament to the expressive richness of Romanticism, combining passionate élan with rigorous construction.
With Richard Strauss's Metamorphoses, in its version for string septet, the music becomes meditation: a melancholic look at a vanished world.
Finally, Alexander Zemlinsky's Maiblumen blühen überall, a rare cycle for soprano and string ensemble, combines springtime poetry and harmonic refinement in an aesthetic that lies between late Romanticism and nascent modernism.
